Information about Auditioned Ensembles
Auditions are only for Bel Canto (Intermediate Women’s Chorus), A Cappella (Advanced Women’s Chorus), and Madrigals (Advanced Mixed Chorus).
If you are interested in singing and don’t want to audition, please sign up for either Men’s Chorus or Women’s Concert Choir. You can do this by contacting me or your Academic Advisor. If auditioning for Madrigals, this audition is just the initial audition. After all auditions have been completed I will select 30-40 students to participate in a Call-back audition. (DUE TO COVID-19 CALL BACKS WILL NOT HAPPEN THIS YEAR). Students called backed for Madrigals must be present at both auditions to be considered for the group.
Incoming 8th Grade Students
Incoming 8th grade students interested in auditioning for SCHS Vocal Arts should first sign up for either “Concert Choir” or “Men’s Chorus” with their academic advisor to ensure they have choir in the schedule for next year. Next, they should use the link at the top of this page to find the audition directions.
Current SCHS Students
Current SCHS students interested in auditioning for SCHS Vocal Arts should use the link at the top of this page for the audition instructions.
What do I have to do in the audition?
First, do not think of this as an audition! Think of it as a voice lesson or a performance. Each student is asked to sing the National Anthem, do simple warm-ups and a few rhythmic and melodic memory games with me. This is to see what voice type you are and how well you can remember simple to complex rhythmic and melodic patterns.
Do I have to prepare anything?
All students should prepare to sing the National Anthem. A copy of the lyrics is uploaded to Google Classroom. You can find the code for Google Classroom by using the link at the top of this page. While practicing the National Anthem I suggest you sing it in a style of a classical/opera type singer. I am looking for correct notes, rhythms, words, and tone. Please save the pop versions for when we do Triton Idol!
What should you bring to your audition?
Auditions this year are entirely online due to COVID-19. All submissions will be done electronically. Please click on the link at the top of this page for all of the instructions.
