SCHS Choirs

The choral program at San Clemente High School consists of five great choirs. All of the choirs perform at four major concerts each year including Cameron Brown Memorial Concert, Winter Extravaganza Concert, Spring Concert, and Pops. Madrigals and A Cappella go on tour each spring. Previous locations recently have included: Washington D.C., San Francisco, Boston, Hawaii, and New York City. We will tour Nashville and Memphis, TN in 2020 and Seattle in 2021!

Madrigals

The San Clemente High School Madrigals specialize in the performance of many different styles of a cappella choral music ranging from renaissance to modern day compositions.  Chosen by a rigorous audition process, the Madrigals are in high demand for presentations throughout the community and greater Orange County.  They consistently receive the highest possible ratings in local and national festivals, and they are often invited to perform with well-known guest artists in professional performances.  The Madrigals have presented choral music in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall in New York’s Lincoln Center, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Segerstrom Hall in Orange County, the Music Center of Los  Angeles, and Southwark Cathedral in London.

A Cappella

This San Clemente High School ensemble is an all-female ensemble of auditioned voices. All of the members have previous singing or music experience, and the group performs various a cappella and accompanied compositions for three or four voice parts from all different style periods. This ensemble regularly earns top markings at local and national festivals and is hailed by adjudicators and clinicians for their musical accuracy and beautiful tone. They go on tour every year and are in high demand to perform all over the community. Auditions for this ensemble are held in May/June for the following year.

Bel Canto

This is an auditioned intermediate women’s chorus. This is a year-long course that explores choral music from a wide variety of cultures and time periods through study and performance.  The core curriculum emphasizes the basics of vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, and music history. Auditions for this ensemble are held in May/June for the following year.

Women’s Concert Choir

Treble Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble of voices in the treble range designed to introduce beginning singers to fundamental vocal technique and elements of choral performance; there are no prerequisites for joining. The class is simply for the enjoyment of those students who wish to enjoy a fun singing experience while fulfilling their Fine Arts requirement for graduation. While some of these students take this course for their A-G Fine Arts requirement, many will find a love of singing and being part of something bigger and will choose to audition for A Cappella Choir. This is welcomed and encouraged!

Triton Varsity Men’s Chorus
